Cold End Job Change Fitter - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Job Introduction

Cold End Job Change Fitter| 12 Month - Fixed Term Contract | £45,000 - £48,500 | Elton |

Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 17:00 Friday 08:00 - 15:15 (39.5 hours)

If you're a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys getting stuck into machinery, solving problems and seeing the results of your work immediately, this could be the role for you.

We're looking for a Cold End Job Change Fitter to join our Elton Glass engineering team. You'll play a key role in changing over and setting up our Cold End inspection equipment and production lines, making sure everything is running safely, efficiently and to the required quality standard.

In a busy, high-speed glass manufacturing environment, you'll be the person making sure the equipment is ready to go when the next job comes along.

What you'll be doing

  • Carrying out job changes and changeovers on Cold End inspection machinery and production lines.
  • Setting up a range of machinery, inspection equipment and production equipment for new jobs.
  • Repairing, maintaining and adjusting equipment during job changes.
  • Identifying and rectifying mechanical issues and machine imbalances.
  • Setting inspection machines to correctly identify and reject challenge samples.
  • Repairing and preparing job change parts ready for future production changes.
  • Carrying out checks to make sure equipment is safe, correctly set and ready for production.
  • Working closely with Engineering and Operations teams to deliver smooth, efficient changeovers.
  • Helping to minimise downtime, waste and scrap while maintaining quality and production standards.
  • Keeping equipment and your work area clean, organised and ready for the next changeover.
  • Reporting defects, damage, accidents and safety concerns promptly.
  • Supporting workplace inspections, risk assessments and continuous improvement activities.

You'll ideally have:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Practical experience in machine setting, maintenance and/or repair.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or high-speed production environment.
  • A good understanding of machinery and automation.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines where downtime matters.
  • Good mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic electrical knowledge would be an advantage.
  • Light fabrication experience would be beneficial.
  • Good computer skills and confidence using Windows-based systems.
  • An understanding of basic computer networking and locating files/applications would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both Engineering and Operations teams.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Hands-on – you enjoy getting involved and fixing things rather than standing back.
  • Problem-solving – when something isn't right, you're the person who wants to understand why and put it right.
  • Safety-focused – you understand that getting the job done properly means getting it done safely.
  • Flexible – job changes don't always go exactly to plan, so you need to be able to adapt and think on your feet.
  • A team player – you'll work alongside Engineering and Operations to keep production moving.
  • Self-motivated – you're comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your work.

Why this role matters

Every successful job change means less downtime, less scrap and a more efficient production line.

You'll be working in a fast-paced glass manufacturing environment where your mechanical skills genuinely make a difference - getting equipment set, solving problems and helping the plant keep producing.

If you're an engineer who likes machines, problem-solving and getting stuck in, we'd like to hear from you.
