On behalf of ENCIRC, Adecco are recruiting for a Lab Assistant Supervisor (level 5) - Internal Only - FTC until 30/06/2024 to join the ever-growing, highly successful manufacturing plant in Elton, Chester.

Role Responsibility

To carry out analysis and actively support the Supervisor in leading the laboratory team on shift. To deputise in the supervisor absence. Coordinate laboratory ring testing for crew, train new starters and assist Supervisor when required. 

  • Ensure compliance with all Food Safety Legislation communicated through Hygiene Policy, the Quality System and briefings 

  • Comply with Health & Safety and Environmental policies and aid the Supervisor in ensuring safe work practices 

  • Carry out organoleptic, chemical analysis of beverages and in-house waste water samples in accordance with the appropriate SOP, customer requirements and defined sampling schedules 

  • Collect samples from production for final product testing, micro, reference and customer 

  • Ensure that products and raw material are within specification upon QA release, if not take appropriate reporting/corrective actions if out-of-specification (OOS) 

  • Carry out calibrations and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment in accordance with defined schedules 

  • Ensure all work areas and equipment within control are maintained to a high standard, and adhere to the principles of 5s 

  • Collaborate with other departments and attend level 5 shift (second in command) meetings to escalate issues 

  • Run standard ring testing to identify training needs for the team in coordination with Laboratory Manager 

  • Help to drive quality improvements within laboratory and assist in training module improvement 

  • Release stock to trade during out-of-hours working 

  • Actively support the supervisor in shift admin tasks and decision making 

  • Carry out investigation in conjunction with the Supervisor or with own initiative. Take corrective action and quarantine product (NCR report and AS400 hold) 

  • In the Supervisors absence attend the daily shift brief (07:30 and 19:00) and the monthly quality brief 

  • In the Supervisors absence deploy resource from the team of technicians as required to meet production requirements 

  • In the Supervisors absence, be a quality lead, particularly when working out-of-hours, and take discretional decision making on lab issues such as analyses and advise on production issues e.g. packaging 

  • In the Supervisors absence complete the stock order / replenishment from onsite stores department 

  • In the Supervisors absence deliver detailed information at shift handovers and other appropriate times 

  • In the Supervisors absence manage shift rota

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of working in a food environment. BRC, ISO, HACCP an advantage 

  • Experience of modern manufacturing approaches (5S, etc.) 

  • Laboratory experience

  • Knowledge of As400 and working knowledge of Autostore software e.g. pallet label printing 

  • Good troubleshooting skills in relation to Hach package analysers and Anton Paar Alcolysers, & good knowledge of Winescan maintenance 

  • Familiar with and can interact with PCS7 (software version 8.2) i.e. Web Navigator to QA release & monitor product 

  • Good knowledge of product analysis of wines, beers, ciders & Fabs 

  • Good skills in testing using instrumentation or wet chemistry 

  • Competent computer skills – MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) 

  • A good eye for detail 

  • Good written & oral communication skills 

  • Ability to prioritise the workload 

  • Ability to work as a part of a team & using your own initiative 

Package Description

Salary: £41000 - £44000

Work Pattern: Mon-Thurs 8-5 Fri 8-2.30
